An experienced sailor on my beach just bought a new 16 from a dealer that has just changed hands. We all think the mast rake is odd, raked way back. One of our members thinks that this is an Aussie rig as she's built there now. Our friend has not been happy with light air performance. There is little to no clearance on the mast pivot housing to adjust the rake forward. The dealer has been useless. Looks to me like taking a mill file to the front part of the pivot housing would do the trick..thoughts?

I'm hoping some of our Hobie 16 sailors (some have new boats) will chime in, but I know that extreme mast rake has been the hot setup on the Hobie 16 for a long time. Sounds like it has now been designed in.
H16 sailors used to add additional forestay adjusters to the front to allow more rake, and upwind the boom was pulled down "block to block".
