Rudder repair  Bottom

  • Is this fixable? It’s a Catyak and the fins where the rudder is bolted snapped off.
I had trouble with the pictures. They’re in the “rudder repair” album.
    Thanks,
    Sue

  • This is the only image I saw. Doesn't make much sense to me.

  • Maybe try hosting on Imgur and posting a link. A verbal description of your concern would go a long way.

  • looks like you will need to move the hinge down, or add a strip of material to the side of that flange. Then mount the hinge to the new piece.

  • Thank you! I don’t know what I’m doing… is the flange the plastic fin?
What would I use to fix it?

  • What I would do is remove the broken piece and glue it back on with west system G-flex. This is only to align
everything and use it as a spacer. Next go to a big box store or a metal supplier and get a piece of 1 inch wide
aluminum flat bar. put a piece on either side of the fin and either rivet or bolt it to the fin. drill through the aluminum pieces and bolt the rudder hinge back on. I probably would extend the aluminum high enough so
that you could also attach a piece to the rib on top of the hull. Where are you located? Maybe someone here is close by and could help out?
