Catamaran friendly launch areas/beaches in Grapevine Lake TX?  Bottom

  • I live on the south side of DFW and I have been going to Lewisville Lake Hobie Point during weekends to sail, and that is fine for the weekends. The problem arise when I would like to do one-day sailing during the week:Lake Lewisville is at least 45 min drive time with the traffic not to factor in potential rush hours, and in the Dallas area rush hour is almost a constant any given time of any business day. The first option would be Grapevine Lake or may be Joe Pool, much shorter drive.
So here is the question: Does anybody know of cat friendly launch site like Hobie point in one of the 2 above mentioned Lakes, and if you do know will you be able to provide directions or any kind of suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

  • I lived in the area about 5 years ago and at that time I had a jet ski. We used to go to these areas http://maps.google.com/ma…38,0.127201&ie=UTF8&z=14 I remember the beaches being fairly clear of rocks, but it's been a while. Good luck finding a good place
  • Hi,
I use Meadowmere on Grapevine when I launch my Hobie 18. There are two ramps and the park is right on the main lake body, no long cove to sail in and out of. When lake is down beware of rocks. I busted a rudder one day sailing out of the ramp on the west ramp of the park.

  • A good lake on the south side of Ft. Worth is Benbrook. Great beach. Dutch Branch Park just east of the Marina. Great thing is beach is long, double wide ramp. And when there is a stiff south wind the beach is protected. Decent even when lake is down.
  • I have sailed Lake Grapevine since 1992. There used to be many more cats that currently sail there. I feel the best place is the grass/sand beach (depends on water level) at Scott's Landing. I even kept my Hobie 21 SE rigged in the storage there and it took 10-15 minutes to be under sail and 15-20 minutes to be pulling out of the storage gate after a sail. If $55-$60/Mo. is not a killer, I highly recommend that route. Store it there, pull up, back it in the water, and shove off!
