Custom made Marstrom 20 from the factory with giant carbon fiber wing racks. Solo, main and spin only. He's going to try to use an autopilot to get some sleep along the way. the old record (yes, there is one) is 14 days. http://www.solo-atlantic.com/sa/home/
Doing a little more reading about this there doesn't seem to be an agreed route for the record. Greg Holman's is attempting from the Canaries to Guadeloupe and says two others have completed that route solo, with the record at 14 days 17 hours.
But I found this guy Vittorio Malingri who just completed a solo Atlantic crossing on a custom carbon 20 foot beachcat this year
So his route was shorter and left from Senegal rather than the canaries, which is sort of the normal starting point for these type runs.
Crossing with a good buddy would be scary. Crossing alone... I feel cold and nervous just thinking about it! I wonder if he has a mast float to go along with that righting pole.
It is an all carbon fiber boat... i bet it is very worth it... of course it is a matter of opinion and funding.. but i bet it is one of the sweetest beach cats in the world.
I completely agree, but not the best for 8 foot swells and blowing 30 knots in the middle of the Atlantic
By the way, I might actually take the Seacart over an F-24
