Does anyone know about a reacher for a standard h14. Doing a distance race and it sure could help. I noticed two in a picture from whirlwind sails. It was looks like a full rig but my standard h14 is fractional. Help -

The black sailed one on Whirlwind is mine. If you want some info on the set up, call me.
I am selling the Hooter rig if you are interested.

We discussed the sail for $450 (includes a nice bag). I have the parts marked with an asterisk.
I have just about everything else except the pole and the lower furler (furling drum).
What you will need:
Line:
1 Hooter sheet*
1 Hooter halyard
2 whisker lines (bow tang to end of pole)
1 small diameter furling line for drum
1 medium diameter furling line from 1:2 block to frame (the one you pull on)
1 barber haul control line*
Sidebar reinforcing 'kit' includes:
2 Hobie 16 bow tangs*
2 Hobie 16/17 anchor bar and pins*
Frame hardware:
1 Hobie 14 add-on Dolphin striker*
1 carriage bolt, washer, nylock nut (to attach pole)
2 Hobie 14 Turbo chainplates*
1 Hobie 14 Jib block support wire
1 micro cam cleat* (for furling line) http://www.harkenstore.com/uniface.urd/scpdinw1.ShowProd?B4RPMEB9Y9CDM0
Barberhauler hardware: (optional)
2 eyelets*
2 micro blocks*
2 stainless rings*
2 micro cleats*
Mast hardware:
1 Hobie 14 mast tang*
1 small bell shackle*
1 Harken 1" block with swivel*
1 Upper furler*
1 cleat (optional) for Hooter halyard*
1 jam cleat* or equiv to adjust halyard tension (optional)
Pole hardware
3 eyelets (two to attach furler and whisker lines on tip, one for 1:2 furling attachment)
1 micro pulley* (for 1:2 furling)
Blocks:
Oxen blocks are the best, but expensive (murrays page 24). You don't ever want to cleat the Hooter, so they work well. You can get a Harken ratchet block at least 2.25" in diameter. I use a 1:1 , so you don't need a block with becket.
Personal:
1 big set of balls* (not for sale)
You will need this furler:

If you want a little more strength, go with:

Try to get the fairlead. I think they sell it seperately, but you have to ask for it. You can make one out of a chainplate adjuster by bending it and installing a padeye.
Hobie parts catalogue:
http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/PARTS_14-16.pdf
The furling and dolphin striker equipment is on Murrays Catalogue page 41. The furler is B 280165, the upper one (that I have) is E 21-0078. The dolphin striker kit is 01-2083. I have the striker, but I may not have the eye bolts..
If you look at the picture of the roller furling jib hardware kit in the upper left, it has the fairlead on the drum.
The catalogue is at:

The first one was pretty tough, but I have added a Hooter to about 5 boats and it gets easier. Once you have the 'recipe' and have it dialed in, it is very easy to do.
The hard part is to not overthink the process. Keep it simple. -

The reacher kit I have installed on my boat performs better than I could have ever wished for. In light winds, the boat actually works. In 10-15 mph winds, the boat is a rockstar!
The sail makes my boat blow a stock h14 out of the water! I was racing my friend on his stock h14 with my reacher furled up. Then I let mine loose and I apeared to be going double his speed.
I think it is worth the money!
