Hobie 14T vs. Nacra5.0  Bottom

  • Hi,i have a Hobie14T use to have a H16 question is i have the oppoutunity to purchase a Nacra 5.0 i have never been on a Nacra period have researched Nacra quit a bit but do you think that there is a big difference in stability, speed, ride etc etc.I really like my H14T but wish i wouldnt of got rid of my H16.But am leaning towards Nacra, any thoughts and input would be greatly apprecited.
  • 5.0 will easily carry a crew of 2 vs the H14T which bogs down with 2. Hulls have more volume and are less prone to pitch pole. You can drive a N5.0 harder/faster that an H16 or 14T with less potential for going head over heels.

N5.0 is a great double or single hand boat. Still I miss my H14T and wish I'd brought it out to Chicago with me. I'd happily use it and my N5.8na. Keep em both but if you need to sell your H14T, you'd be very happy with the N5.0. It is definately more versatile.
  • I personally have an H14T and a Nacra 6.0. I LOVE the H14t for my solo sail days where I'm totally alone and need no help to rig and sail...It's sailing at it's simpliest and finest on some days. The Nacra 6.0 is the boat I use when I have sailing buddies(crew of 2-4) that like to scream down a line and just go for it in a team effort. Having these two boats is having my cake and knowing my cake is faster than your cake icon_cool

I subscribe to the 80/20 rule. What is it that your boat will be doing 80% of the time? That is the mold it needs to fit into....OR GET 2 Moulds. If I were to pick one boat to do the job, it would be the Nacra 5.0, but I would surely miss the fun of the H14T.
  • When it comes the hobies and Nacras, I am Nacra biased. The Nacra 5.0 is also supposed to be one of the most versatile of the Nacra fleet. For me, it wouldn't really be a question. Get the Nacra.

If we were talking Hobie Fox though....
  • Much as I love the HT14, the 5.0 is more versatile and more fun. Light as a feather as well.
I would definately buy one if I were looking to downsize.
  • we have a local who picked up a 5.0 this past winter. He has won 2 (Portsmouth) races, and can keep up (and pass) most boats around here.

I dont want to give him to much credit (as his head is already so big, he can barely fit through a standard doorway)... but his 20 year old sails /boat are killing the compatition
  • It's more the sailor than the boat
  • HULLFLYERIt's more the sailor than the boat

I think he cheats. He must have a pocket propeller or similar
