6:1 mainsheet on H14?  Bottom

  • Thanks for the needed info on the rudder tubes Dan - much appreciated.

I have a new question for setting up the mainsheet blocks. Is 6:1 using 5/16 line (like on the H16) overdoing it for the H14?

It will actually work out cheaper than new 3/8 line and 5:1 blocks.

    Thanks,
    Roger
  • the heavier the line... the easier to hold... but the heavier line also takes more work to get through the blocks.. its a trade off...

some people "taper" their line (strip the outer jacket off the part of the line that goes through the blocks)... but this requires WHIPPING (sewing the line in place) or you could ruin the line as the jacket pulls off the core (at the worst possible time)
  • You want to be able to work the sheet in heavy winds and get immediate response. I'd be careful not to go too thick with the sheet.
  • Do you mean you'd get an H16 block, and use it on your H14? You probably don't need that much leverage for your H14, but I don't know if I'd say you're overdoing it. Using a 6:1 would mean you'd have more sheet to keep out of the water though.
