Hey everyone, my name is Keith. I just bought my first sail boat for $600 with a trailer. It's a Prindle 16. The boat, rigging, trampoline and harnesses are in great shape. I did not realize until i got all the way home that the mast had been broke in half and welded back together. Being a professional welder i know that the welds are bad, but besides that the he cut about 4 inches out of the mast. Now the rigging and the Main sail are to long.
how do i go about buying a new mast? I here that i can just buy the extruded alumium and swap all my parts over, but i don't know where to buy it or how long it should be since mine is about 4 inches short.

There are plenty of used mast available. You should put your location in your post. -

Welded with no supporting outer or inner sleeve attached with rivets or screws? Just a weld? Either way, you need those missing four inches.
I have seen masts that have been repaired successfully on monohulls, but a good mast repair would limit flexibility due to supporting materials. My P18 mast is a cooked noodle compared to the mast on my former Mac 25.
