Homemade Nacra Prindle End Caps
I had an idea and it seems to have worked, and not expensive either...
I ordered a 1-inch section of 4-diameter 6061, with same wall thickness...
All that is needed is flat, level area, wide cello package tape, floor wax, AL foil, the 1-inch ring, remnant peel ply, glass or carbon filaments, and epoxy (excess).
Set foil on some sort of softish, flat moveable surface, like a piece of blue foam...spread wax over area larger than diameter of ring; wax inside of ring and one edge. Don't wax outside surface.
Set ring on aluminum sheet and press down a bit to push into foil and foundation to keep epoxy from leaking.
Next time you mix a batch of epoxy, pour left over in to ring, add some remnant carbon etc, and if not to top edge, add some peel ply to allow for next batch of epoxy...
Once first batch has cured in ring, the ring can be moved anywhere, but keep on level surface...
Wrap clear tap around outside of ring and mark at about .25-inch above ring edge for top limit. (Provides lip for cap to match diameter of aka or beam, in this case 4-inches.)
Vary as needed...Will be tight fit but can sand...add center connection for say bungie retainer...some closed cell foam as flotation...
If you use torch to clear bubble, be swift...cello tape...
Pour in next batch of goop to above indicated mark...voila, new cap...
