Random orbital sander and lots of 120 grit paper. This grit eats the old paint and gelcoat fast enough, but doesn't leave problematic swirl marks for later steps. It also provides substantial tooth for the epoxy primers that will be used later.

7/32 " Cobalt drill bit for drilling 3/16" Monel rivets. This size bit is perfect for drilling the head of the rivet off so that you can punch the shank through easily. The very slight oversize does not damage the piece under the head of the riv

I have used the 1/4 HP grinder with a wire wheel on both aluminum and the stainless parts. I have also soaked bolts in a product called CLR that has been helpful at cleaning up the scale and some of the oxidization.

Fiberglass, 4 oz., 6 oz, maybe even heavier for major structure problems. My problems are generally small hairline cracks, so lighter cloth is easier to fair out and will adequately reinforce the existing glass.

80 grit garnet is what I'm using with the sandblaster and my tests show this works really well. It only cleans out the loose or oxidized aluminum and doesn't want to eat up the aluminum itself. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. I bought a 55 lb.

Inexpensive sandblaster to clean up the pitting on the mast, beams and boom. This one has been sitting around the shop for years and never got used until now. It seems to be just the tool for the job.

This is probably a very optional tool, but I have used it several times now. It is a small die grinder with a course rasp bit. It is helpful to quickly gouge out material, but can also be used more carefully to remove material quickly.

Packing tape is very useful to apply to anything you don't want the epoxy to adhere to, like the beams when I press them into thickened epoxy in the cradles.

Spraying these crazy expensive paints would be even more expensive if you do your eyes and lungs in. After the first spraying session I realized my eyes were burning when using just the standard respirator.
