Here is the transom. You can see the 4 bolts that hold the lower rudder attachment. There does not appear to be a backing plate, only washers under the nuts.
The hole at the bottom is the rear hull drain plug.
If you look at the very lower left you can clearly see the "two ply" layup. This shows up in other areas. It appears a thin layer of matt was applied on top of the gelcoat, then another separate layer of material was added. This second layer does have some cutouts, it was not just laid up as additional layers of resin/matt. I'm not sure if the process was to put a thin layer on top of the gelcoat, then remove the stiffened assembly from the mold so that another hull could be quickly cast. meanwhile the first casting could have pre built form dropped into it & resined in place?
