FR on Flathead
Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi (followed by Pend d'Oreille and Tahoe), 28 miles north to south, 15 miles E to W at the widest point. Located in NW Montana, just south of Kalispell. Mission Mountains to the east, the Continental Divide another couple of ranges further east. Deep, clear, mostly rocky shores, reminds me of Superior a lot. Big enough to generate thermal differences between cool water and rapidly warming valleys north and particularly the south of the lake. A true jewel!
