Added by damonAdmin on Apr 23, 2003 - 12:26 AM

Ever thought about building your own catamaran? Here's an illustrated guide to one sailors project building a beautiful A-Class catamaran out of plywood. A big thank you to the builder, Chris Williams, for letting me share his work with the rest of the beachcat sailors.

Free Web Hosting for beachcat sailors, clubs and fleets.

Added by damonAdmin on Apr 22, 2003 - 04:39 PM
A lot of catamaran sailing clubs, catamaran associations, Hobie Cat Fleets, and individual catamaran sailors would like to have a sailing website but don't have the budget to pay for hosting.

Since I feel that every catamaran sailing organization and individual catamaran sailor should be able to have a home on the web, I've decided to offer free web-hosting and email to any non-commercial website primarily devoted to catamaran sailing.

St. Thomas, USVI -- It was the Caribbean, but that didn't mean sailors were laid back when they hit the starting line at St. Thomas Yacht Club's 2003 International Rolex Regatta in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tough competition, warm tropical breezes, blue-water courses and a mix of island culture and energy were on tap from March 28-30 as the annual event celebrated its 30th edition with a new look and a notable increase in entrants-97 to be exact.

The Tybee 500, "An Affordable Challenge"

Tybee 500

There is a new kid on the block when it comes to beachcat adventure. The first annual Tybee 500 distance race, to be sailed May 12-17, starts in the Florida Keys and ends up over 500 miles north at Tybee Island, Georgia. The six leg event is designed, in the words of the founder Chuck Bargeron,

"To give beachcat sailors a chance to find out what long distance racing is all about."

Sailing vacation in Belize, A trip to aviod

Added by Bill on Mar 31, 2003 - 10:09 PM
My wife and I took a beachcat sailing trip to Belize in February 2003. The trip was such a disappointment we decided to share the experience with as many people as possible, hoping we would help others avoid our misfortune.

Footnote: It's a shame this trip turned out so bad, I used to day-dream about this "adventure". At least other sailors will know what to expect, thanks Bill.

Worrell 1000 cancelled for 2003

Added by damonAdmin on Mar 29, 2003 - 04:44 PM
*** Press Release from the Worrell 1000 ***

The management of the Worrell 1000 regrets to announce that the 2003 Worrell 1000 is cancelled. A key investor defaulted on his financial commitment to fund the acquisition of charter boats and subsequent efforts for alternate financing simply ran out of time. Neither Bimare Catamarans, the North American Bimare Distributor, W.F. Oliver, nor the F-18HT class share any responsibility in this matter.

Footnote: This is quite a shock to me, I was looking forward to following the race.

Poll results say more found TheBeachcats.com by links.

Added by damonAdmin on Mar 04, 2003 - 05:25 PM
The Poll that is titled "How did you find this site" revealed the fact that more people found TheBeachcats.com from links on other sites than other means. I was surprised by this, figuring that most folks would have come to the site from either the beachcats mailing list, or search engines.

A big thanks to all who have put a link to TheBeachcats.com on their website. The Catamaran Links Directory here at TheBeachcats.com makes it easy for you to add sites you feel would interest our members. Webmasters, please consider linking to TheBeachcats.com on your sailing related sites.

December long weekend

Added by Bill on Feb 06, 2003 - 12:44 AM

I thought it would be a good idea to share our "long weekend" vacation adventure last Dec 5-9 with you all. However I need to set the stage. To do so I have started our story with the E-mails traded at the Beachcats Mailing List that led to this story.

Bill Cash" Date: Sat Nov 9, 2002 9:01 am Subject: Re: Charters
Katherine and I are planning a vacation around our 30th anniversary in February. One thought is to go to Belize and do the "Under the Sun in Belize" trip. Sounds like a fun trip... 8 days on an 18 going from Cay to Cay and lodge to lodge, BUT its expensive. $1950 each plus 750-1000 each for airfare. And since we don't know anyone who has done this trip we have some reservations about dumping 6K on a vacation.

My second thought is to do a bare boat charter, BUT the vast amount of our sailing experience is on beachcats or very small monoslugs. IM not sure a charter service is gonna allow us to bareboat a 30+' catamaran with beachcats as the backbone of my sailing resume... Can anyone point me to a "more relaxed" charter service, in the Keys of the Islands?

Running with the Big Dogs

Added by Bill on Feb 03, 2003 - 09:02 PM

Katherine & I raced in the area C Eliminations for the Alter cup, October 26 & 27 2002. This was only our 3rd race since we began sailing beachcats.

I knew when we decided to do this race that we would be out of our league, “Sailing with the BIG BOYS”. However, it seemed like a good way to end the sailing season. For those of you who may be new to the list, Katherine & I started sailing beachcats in June of 2000. Our first boat was a H16 that we rebuilt and named the Purple People Eater.

Footnote: Thanks Bill, stories like yours are always inpspiring!
