The workshop is proudly sponsored by Division 5 and HCA of North America. Don't miss out! See you on the start line.

Please join Deb Olsen and Kathleen Tracy for this season’s WOW, hands on sailing clinic. It will be held Saturday, June 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Union Reservoir just east of Longmont. See www.ci.longmont.co.us/parks/ for map and lake info. There is a $5 entry fee per car at the gate.

We’ll talk safety, sailing gear, sailing terms and why-fors, and then practice sail trim, boat attitude and maybe even racing tactics. Come learn how to be the best pro-active crew your skipper has ever had and find out if the view from the skipper’s seat is for you.

This is a day of Stress Free and Fun Sailing.

Vectorworks Marine Inc. To Build A-Class Catamaran in USA

Added by damonAdmin on Apr 13, 2005 - 11:01 AM
4-13-05 Titusville, FL - We are extremely pleased to announce the Vectorworks Marine Inc has entered in to an agreement with Bimare of Italy to be the licensed builder in the United States of their A-class catamaran, the XJ (Extreme Javelin).

This year, 2005, Bimare is celebrating their 30th year of producing catamarans. In 1978, with the introduction of the Bim A, they were one of the first companies to build a production A-class catamaran. This model sailed to multiple World, European and national titles. The A-class being a developmental class, has often helped lead the way in advancing "beach catamaran" design. Sail design, canting hulls and what is commonly referred to as "wave piercing" hull shapes, are all examples of features refined in the A-class and now being used in many of the new generation of production catamarans being manufactured. Bimare's long history of staying in the forefront of technology is represented in their Javelin hull shape. The XJ is a third iteration of this hull shape, building on the strengths of that concept. Early race results, from around the globe, are proving this design is going to make this the boat to beat.

Vectorworks Marine's history of quality tooling and contract manufacturing ties in perfectly with Bimare's concept of creating a US based manufacturer of their design. The growth in A-class participation in particular, has been severely hampered by not having a production builder located in the US. The majority of boats have typically come from Europe or Australia. The problems associated with pricing, exchange rates, shipping and customer support have made the commitment to own an A-cat beyond what most people are willing to put forth. Recently VMI has successfully transformed the Phill Brander designed Blade F16 in to composites and introduced it into the US market. The tendency towards performance and the detail involved in the F16 and A-cat designs makes them fit very well on the manufacturing floor.

VMI and Bimare look forward to helping catamaran sailing in the US expand by making models more readily available than has been typical in the past.

This year, the Round Texel organization introduces an annual prize for the best performing sailing club. On Saturday June 11th 2005, world’s biggest catamaran race around the wadden island of Texel will start for the 28th time. Italy to Host the 25th International Catamaran Challenge Trophy

Added by damonAdmin on Feb 09, 2005 - 05:19 PM
Province of Rimini to feature catamaran match-racing as part of BLURimini Festival.

SEA CLIFF, N.Y. - The Trustees of the International Catamaran Challenge Trophy, in conjunction with defender Southern Yacht Club, have accepted the bid submitted by Rimini, Italy, to host the celebratory 25th anniversary regatta. The event is scheduled May 26-June 1, 2005.

The Province of Rimini, located northeast of San Marino on Italy's upper Adriatic coast, is the host. The BLURimini organization and the Vela Viva Sailing Club will coordinate the event. The regatta will be a featured part of the 7th annual BLURimini Festival, a celebration of music, entertainment and sailing.

"We think that Rimini and its popular festival will make a wonderful host for the silver anniversary of the ICCT," said John B. Dawson, Chairman of the ICCT Trustees. "Multihull racing is popular in Europe, and we anticipate a fleet of 10 to 15 defenders and challengers."

The event will be sailed in F18HTs, an 18-foot, high-performance catamaran. The two-person cats are being provided by the host city and Bimare Marine, the Italian builder. They carry a 20-square-meter (215-square-foot) mainsail and spinnaker.

Nacra Celebrates 30 Years of Excellence in Catamaran Design and Construction

Added by damonAdmin on Feb 08, 2005 - 05:46 PM
Nacra turns 30. This speedy little catamaran, which Tom Roland initially designed, built and first sailed in Santa Barbara, California in 1975 has come of age -- from the agile 17-foot Nacra 5.2 that quickly attracted fellow sailors to the state-of-the-art models offered by the current builder Performance Catamarans, Inc. And, Nacra has proven time and time again to be OAlways One Step Ahead.¹

The popularity of the first Nacra geared the staff towards introducing more catamaran designs including the 18 sq, 5.0, 5.7 and 5.8 models. Over the years, it was necessary for Nacra to move from Santa Barbara to Carpinteria then to the Catalina Yachts facility in Woodland Hills in 1985. In 1988, Performance Catamarans was created combining Nacra with the Prindle catamaran line and moved to Santa Ana, California where it still exists today.

After a second design, the 18 sq., was released in 1978, new Nacra designs were released beginning in the early 80's-, the Nacra 5.0 (16'), 5.7 (18.5')and 5.8 (19¹) designs became the new standards following the Nacra 5.2 in multihull racing. Most open class regattas welcomed the Nacras until their own One-Design race circuit was formed and then Nacra fleets began sprouting up all over the United States, (with the help of the European and Australian distributors) Europe and Australia.

L7 Sport Trimaran has less control lines than a Hobie 18 catamaran.

Added by damonAdmin on Jan 09, 2005 - 03:30 AM
Mike Leneman has designed, built, and test sailed a revolutionary coastal day-sailor trimaran called the L7. It is a pocket-cruiser that can kick butt on many of the much more costly, coastal racing trimarans.

Until now, the biggest difference between a catamaran and trimaran has been the way that the trimarans were designed to primarily sail upon their center hull while leaning on one of their two outrigger style amas. Leneman has made a timely step forward in developing a trimaran that more closely resembles a catamaran.

For so many years, Mike Leneman has been representing a very famous multihull manufacturer who has had the greatest and best trailerable multihull trimaran on the market. That design, brand has been extremely popular and partly thanks to Leneman, has enjoyed tremendous success on the West Coast.

Tiger Worlds Arranges for Shipping from East

Added by gt on Nov 05, 2004 - 12:18 PM
2005 Hobie Tiger World Championships Santa Barbara, California March 28-31, 2005

Hobie Cat has negotiated a special rate with Landstar Ranger for a trailer to depart from the East Coast and make 2 stops, picking up Tigers as it goes on its merry way to California. Hobie Cat has obtained 50% OFF Round Trip Transportation for a 53’ trailer. This makes the overall cost of transporting boats from the east coast very reasonable. The tentative current costs for one-way is approximately $4,600. The trailer will hold 12 – 15 boats plus beach wheels and gear. That is less than $400 per boat round trip. Of course the final cost per boat will depend on the exact number of boats being shipped.

This includes the following:

• 53’ Trailer with cross racks to tie your hulls so they do not sit on each other

• Partial loading at initial departure point

• Partial loading at two other locations in route

• Trailer to remain on-site in Santa Barbara for duration of the event

• Return trip with same stops
