Roller-Furler
This was my first experience with a roller furling foresail. All the hardware was in decent condition, and having the roller presented no problems in stepping the mast. But that pin at the bottom has got to go! We stepped it for the first time in fairly high wind, and there were some tense moments before my wife got the ring in the pin so I could let go of the mast.
Later that afternoon I went into work where we have a collection of quick release pins. I grabbed a fistful, tried out a bunch of them for fit, and found a size that worked. I ordered two 1/4" x 0.750" all-stainless quick pins from McMaster Carr. Next time we step the mast, it'll be easier. (The second pin is for the mainsail, where the tack attaches to the gooseneck.)
(The pins from work went back with me the next day, and are now nestled safely in their drawers where they belong.)
