Inside Looking Forward
There are no inspection ports on the P-Cat forward of the rear beam. The only way air can get in or out is through a second set of drain plugs on the boat. (Yes, the P-Cat has four drain plugs: two on the transoms and two inside the boat.)
We installed two 5" ports just forward of the forward beam. After cutting the holes (gulp!) I stuck a camera inside for a closer look.
This is a shot facing forward. There are reinforcing ribs underneath the deck in an A shape with three cross-beams. (No, I didn't cut any of this when cutting holes for the ports.) There are also reinforcing ribs along the sides, and across! But no balsa or foam laminate. Just glass. (Heavy, but solid.)
I was surprised to find the hulls full of closed cell foam. These didn't appear to have soaked up water as the blocks are all quite light. But it was very humid inside. After 24 hours of open hulls, the humidity had dropped to outdoor normal.
