It will fit in the sail box better with all the other stuff. The pvc pipe is pretty large - comparatively.

When I trailer, (see my bottom picture at the gas station), I can fit in the tube: Main and jib sails in their bags, 2 paddles, tiller crossbar, hiking stick, boom, rudders and gudgeons, small cooler, pfd's and parts/tools bags. The only thing that won't fit that has to go into to the trunk are the centerboards which I don't like to long-haul trailer with them in the hulls. It's pretty amazing how big that tube really is. And all for about $50 for the wood and fasteners to make the cradles that hold it to the frame - the tube was free.
And of course the reminder that when launching the boat off the trailer down a ramp... REMEMBER TO REMOVE BOTH END CAPS FROM THE TUBE!!! Yes I learned this lesson the hard way as I turned back the first time to find the boat nearly on its side as the trailer was floating and twisting over! Yikes!
Yep, Doug, I like your setup, but I think there is a little confusion. I was admiring your pvc cradles on your trailer. I was needing something for the beach (not trailor). Thats where the stowable came in...the cradles would have to be kept in my already cramped sailbox. I said "pipe" and should have been a little clearer. Thanks for the pic's. great post.
I remember the first time I dunked my new boat with the sail box. I sat there for a few minutes wondering "what the hell, my boats in the water...but its not in the water" I laugh now about that first day. Lots of interesting learning.

Why? That seems a rather waste of space for something as sturdy as a Catrax (beach wheels) to have to go INTO the sailbox. Why not simply bungie the beach wheels to the trailer? How about vertically to the mast support post? If it were me and I were driving the minivan, I would probably just bungie the beach wheels to the roof rack.
