[#28270]

Hello

The latest storm tracks put Emily pretty much between the Bahamas and the Florida coast on Saturday - give or take a couple hundred miles.

Will someone post here to let us know if Gilligan's Run is still going off? I really really want to do this race but I don't want to do it with a (probable) hurricane on the doorstep 😛

Thanks

I talked to Steve Caron this morning and they plan to make the call tomorrow or early Thursday. Fleet 80 is weighing their options at the moment so I have no details regarding any alternate plans or postponing.

Thanks Dave.

Obviously as time goes on we'll have more info on the storm and a better idea of how the conditions will be along the coast. I'm going to go buy water and propane

just in case

later today.

IF Gilligan's is cancelled/postponed, come on over to GYC for club races on Saturday!

I might. If the storm is close enough to cause problems for Gilligans then it might behoove me to stick around the house and make sure **** doesn't fly away 😛

Swing down to my house, and help me put the friggin shutters up. Then we can all go to the keys once the eye is north of Miami and have the bars all to ourselves!

You're going to shutter up?

You can hardly get permission to go sailing.

Do you think that you can get permission to go drinking?

From Steve Caron:

We will make a decision on Thursday as to what to do. Right now they are calling for a sunny day on the west side of the storm.

If you need a hall pass to go sailing, what do you call the pass to go drinking in the keys and leaving the kids with mom?

Steve Caron

I'm not going to complain at all - but the storm will probably kick up some knarly surf on the beach.

Something I'm sure is being considered.

It's always up to the sailor...but...Looking at the 1-2-3 rule, and knowing the swell is going to be horrible, if it were me, I'd be skipping this one. At the least, those rudders and boards are expensive!

?

Thank You

Gilligan’s Run is a NO GO for this weekend.

Options:

Steve is willing to still have the party but will need to charge $20 a head and will need a minimum number of people to commit before he pulls the trigger. I'll SPAM the fleet tonight when I get home from work, please respond here or to the email tonight if you are interested.

Rescheduling: Due to many schedule conflicts with the organizer Aug 20 is the only viable date and Steve still has to check some things before he can lock that date in. There are no other dates on the calendar that will work.

Thank you Todd. I need to better educate myself on such things now that I reside in an area prone to such tropical atmospheric events.

20th sounds like a doable date. Remember.....GYC is racing Saturday for anyone looking for a fix.

Who said I'd leave momma back here? I agree that the proper term would be

divorce

.

And no, I'm not going to shutter-up , but I may actually check to see if the cordless drill still works.

It turned out to be a very nice sailing weekend in Daytona. I would guess the wind averaged between 8 and 10. Started E the went SE about 1. Sat. We left the beach about 10:30 and spent about 40 min sailing north to were we usually start then continued on to the pier. After we reached the pier we decided to sail the course just for fun. It ended up a tight spin reach for most of both directions. Then the wind pretty much crapped out at about 3 when we were headed home. The 16's would have finished very late in the day. Some really nice swell running from the south made for some great surfing on the way back from the jetty.Max speed for the day was 13, not blazing but good fun. Hopefully we will get the same or better for the 20th.

Your killing us...It was a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Ya'll made the best decision for the information you had at the time.

I would not have guessed it would fall apart completely. I figured it would lose some strength then gain most of it back once it got past the Haiti/Dom Rep. I figured best case scenario, you would have still been hit with big swells making the beach launch dangerous especially if you had light wind.

Hindsight is always 20/20. The correct decision was made. The good news is, I'm still looking forward to the event, the bad news is the hangover from the fish fry is still ahead of me. Had the race been Saturday, I'd be over it by now.

Fried fish doesn't cause a hangover.

Huh!? The mystery continues.
