It was back around 1960, I was 7 Mom & Dad took us up to a rustic resort with no amenities in Canada that was only accessible by boat. The resort had an aluminum hulled boat with an outboard to haul us forth and back. Dad took me & Bro out fishing in a little boat. Mom wasn't happy. Something about the bears wandering around.
Dad grew up during the Depression in East Chicago, IN. His first boat ride was a troop ship going to North Africa. His parents only boat ride was in the early 1900's from Poland. Â
Mom's first ride was probably with Dad in the early 1950's. She grew up in Central Illinois and her parents probably were never on a boat. But I may have gotten my interest in sailing from her ancestors who came over by sail in the mid 1700's.
