Replied to the topic main halyard lifespan
Well, I'm an older dude sailing an older boat just for fun. I would prefer a wire halyard I can trust, but truthfully, I felt lucky my sail didn't fall down and leave me stranded out there trying to paddle back in - not sure how it stayed up, cockeyed battens and all. I was planning on a three yea...

@33curt33 Here is a video of me raising my Prindle mast: . This is only a P18-2 mast, but I raise my aluminum Tornado mast the same way. Now getting older, I have designs to install a winch and block. I do have a gin pole designed (and have built them for previous clients). Once can easily do a 4:...

@westmatt The problem with using rope is that it's an external halyard... it will "compress" between the head and where you cleat it off. Now, if you can install a dozen eye straps to encapsulate the halyard, it can work. You're going to need something with a Dyneema type core. Even with the high te...

I believe I'm done with grinding fiberglass.... for a while at least. So itchy in the heat! The vac-bagging of the biaxial 17-oz glass/epoxy on the keels worked out great.   Above is the starboard hull. In the rain today. The bow got a slight face-lift. The previous owner butchere...

My friend Bob at Pymatuning lake with a P16 has used all rope as long as I can remember. It doesn’t seem to be a performance hit for him.

If anyone who's done so can comment - when using an all-rope halyard on a Prindle 16, would you have to remove the existing halyard hook or just route the rope around it?

I was wondering about using all-rope, will have to consider that option. Another benefit of that configuration would be that the wire part of the halyard wouldn't be chewing up the masthead sheaves. Will also do a better job of inspecting now that I've learned that lesson. I do look at it, but n...

my Nacra 5.7 uses a captive staged ball to keep the main aloft. I have gotten long life out of both the Murray’s and Salty Dog wires. The Murray’s is more like original and is a ball shaped stop, the SD halyard uses a split sleeve sewage that works well but has a different appearance. It’s importan...

Thanks Ed. The tree has been removed and things are clear in terms of damage. The front crossbar, Dolphin striker down-rod, beach wheels axle, stub hull, and mast (bent) are toast. The trailer support arms are all folded to the ground. The port hull could be repaired, but not worth it. All running r...

Went out today for a lovely 5 min. of sailing. After my first tack, a "pop" and the Prindle 16 main halyard ends up in my lap. Somehow the sail stayed up until I limped back in. It broke right above where the 'stop ball' was swaged on. I bought it in May of '24 - would this be considered a norm...
