[#15639]

I just bought a 17ft. Hobie center console power boat, with a 50hp Johnson on the back, but I can't seem to find ANY information on it, internet or otherwise. Guess I'm looking in the wrong places. I have been told by a lady at the Hobie Cat Co. that it was manufactured by a company called "Omni". Does anyone have any information on it, or a booklet or manual to it that they can send me, or point me in the right direction to find it? I don't have any info on replacement parts or how to service the boat, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Robbie Slater

I believe you have what is actually called a 'Hobie Skiff' and you might have luck with that search term.

I see you're in MS... where, exactly, are you?

I have a skiff, and it's 15 feet.

I remember the adds from Hobie Hotline, including a pic with the boat being picked up by the bow rail. It seemed like there was at least a 15 and 17 foot model.

Definitely sounds like a Hobie Skiff. I have had one for many moons and find it bullet proof. Some problems with it however:
1) The self-bailing **** is also self-filling, so plan on getting wet feet all time, if in the back of the boat.
2) The self-bailing scuppers have rotted out and were replaced several times, but still leak into the hull. Consequently, it always takes on water in the hull. It won't sink, however, because it is filled with foam. Still, when we pull it each time it drains a lot of water out of it.
3)Hobie sold the rights and molds a long time ago, and they have been sold since several times. I don't believe anyone is making them at this time. Therefore, getting parts from anyone is next to impossible.
4) To repair the scuppers, we used beer cans and flared the ends and caulked. But, need to do it again.

Good luck,
Rick

I think our Hobie Skiff is 15 feet (although Rick thinks it is 13 feet). I have never heard of one 17 feet.

I've got a Hobie skiff also. it's 15 foot with a Merc 65hp. Great boat, bulletproof, and also get's your feet wet if you step ini the back. The previous owner, took to a truck shop and had it "rhino lined" interior, console, etc. It's pretty industrial looking, but you won't slip walking around in it.

It's about to be listed for sale, if anyone is interested.

This is a boat built under trademark license by a company called Omni. They bought the original 15' Hobie Power Skiff from Coleman in the mid 80's. That was two attempts back at building the skiffs. Hobie bought the line back when Tony Wilson had the company, then it was sold again and re-born as a jet drive boat. Hobie Jet...

The 17-18 foot Omni designed "Hobie Power Skiff" was a disaster for Omni. Tons of problems.

There is nothing about that boat I could find.
