The first BIMARE 4-X is actually near completion.
The first testsail is expected in two weeks (the photos below were taken on January 25).
The proto is fitted with 100 mm diameter round beams.
Two different masts will be evaluated (both with a 157 x 74 section): a softer version weighting 2,030 gr/ml and a stiffer version scaling up at 2,250 gr/ml.

Catfan,
Thankyou for the link.
Nothing more exciting than putting a new design on the water.
BTW:- 4X or as we know it XXXX is a popular beer made in Queensland Australia. If the Bim F18 is held in the high regard the Queenslanders I know hold the XXXX it will be very popular.

I would love to see some photos of it sailing when it gets wet.

Regards,
Phill

Actually, don't worry. I can do these in Ulead......

Doesn't look as though it's got much rocker, does it? Interesting shape though, be nice if it goes as quick as it looks.....

Hey Catfan
Is Bimare going to use the Riba mast on the F18? Or they doing their own mast? The Riba mast is a good solid stick.

This is going to be an exciting F18 season! I am really looking foward to mixing it with 150 other F18s at Carnac [Eurocat] at the end of April, to see how the Infusion goes up against the Tigers. I bet that Bimare will be there with the xxxx too, a couple of Ht18's always show up.
I reckon that this one looks quick on flat water, but in the lumpy stuff, they may want more rocker. This is where the Tiger has always done better than the Capricorn and previous Nacras. Hence mega-rocker on the Infusion.

xxxx off!
Paul

Bill

carbon masts are not allowed in the F18 class. Therefore the X-4 mast is an aluminium extrusion.
BTW BIMARE new division BIMmast is going to manufacture a more flexible and lighter sticks for the Javelin 2.
Since the beginning of 2006 all BIMARE cats are fitted with BIM masts made from female moulds in the factory autoclave at 6 bar of pressure. The new A class tube is around 0,5 kg than the latest RIBA. BIMARE developed also a new carbon adjustable spreader assembly which weights only 260 gr.
For more info have a look at BIMARE website:

Aww com'on guys - how much have we talked about the new Nacra F18? While I'm sure there would be no harm in purchasing an ad on catsailor, I don't see this as a shameless plug and enjoy seeing the development. Besides, if he were really with the factory, you think they would have reacted to the "negative photo" bashing they took last time and given us some real shots that we wouldn't have had to manipulate.

Just for the record, both Hobie Cat Company and Performance Catamarans run full-page ads in Catamaran Sailor magazine.

Maybe Bimare should do the same now? Bimare got plenty of free advertising on the old forum for the 18HT from the old US dealer by the use of multiple usernames!!

Didnt WF use catfan as an alias?

He's not representing Bimare anymore, so that doesnt make any sense.

Same goes for Vectorworks Marin Inc. Catsailor Mag even did a full article on the boat. Thats without considering all the hype in the F16 forum.

I am already talking with Rick about running an ad. I am sure maybe only a couple of folks here know what I do.

Its just the right thing to do.

Paul,

This Carnac, may not have as many 18HT as usual. We have an important Class regatta in Switzerland the same week-end, in Thunersee. We have also a week prior this week-end a 18HT Promotional movie that will be shooted in Thunersee...

I'll keep you informed as soon as I have more news.

Jr

The last time I checked, Hobie Tigers were made in France, and there are quite a few of those in th US.
Unless Europe has disowned France, and if you have disowned them, we understand and will support that notion!

Ok. You are right, Tigers are made in France but is Hobie-Cat a French company?

You are a little playing with words, this is fine.

Part of that, can any one let me know own many type of Cat Manufacturer do you have in the USA and who are they?

This is just curiosity.

Jr

Hobie Cat Europe is a French company - completely separate ownership from Hobie Cat USA.

Hobie Cat Europe builds Hobie Tigers
Hobie Cat USA does not.
