Lots of hate for Jet Skis is understandable. So first reaction is "Yay! No Jet Skis!" The problem comes when the same "beach protector" people soon decide than everything is a threat, including beachcats, and ban all access.

That is why its nearly impossible to sail or land on  the beach anywhere in Southern California.

What is the local sentiment about sailing off the beaches?

I don't think Jetskis have been shunted away because of hate exactly... The causeway has three sections, one for Jetski launching, one for swimming/fishing, and one for non-motorized watercraft launching (of course the swimmers are all over the non-motorized sailboat launching section because why not).

However, during the last hurricane, the Jetski launching beach got washed away and it's no longer safe to leave the road through that part of the causeway. I presume they will eventually get to fixing it...

We've had plenty of times where a Jetski helped a capsized catamaran get upright, so I don't think the sailors have much hate for them, I know I don't...

The only real problem I have is when I sail back to my car and trailer only to find lounge chairs and pavilions in the way. That said, they have always been friendly and moved... at least so far.
