The final day brought sunshine, calmer seas and warmth. It also brought a lessening of the winds. The first race was in about 10 knots of wind and there was very exciting racing. The competitors were close throughout the entire race.
Race two started out in 7 knots winds and deteriorated from there to a negative 3. Near the end of the race the winds shifted a 180 degrees and was very light. For the racers in the front it wasn't too bad as they finished before the shift. But for the stragglers it was extremely frustrating. So frustrating that two of the racers just turned around and headed back for the beach.
We had the best sailors in the world and they showed us what it is to compete at such a high level. We wish them all the luck in their Olympic quest.
The festivities at the Awards Dinner at Jesse's for the competitors was excellent.
With the tireless effort of Jill Nickerson this turned into a great international event with TBCSI and everyone else getting the credit. Thanks Jill, we couldn't have done it without you.
Thanks to all the volunteers from TBCSI who graciously gave their time. Without our great members this event would not have been such a success.
