Hiram's Haul date is set
The great Florida race to Captain Hiram's restaurant and bar is set for October 25 & 26, this year. Scot of Performace Sail on US-1, has rates negotiated for the Hotel at Captain Hiram's, (772 589 4345); and for sure, the early bird gets the choice locations on this deal. The Race is a 25 mile down river race from Pineda Causeway near Melbourne/Rockledge, Florida to the Sebastion area, an over night party and a race back up river on Sunday. Hard to say which is best, the party or the sailing.
This is a race where most will be using spinnakers, (wind cooperating) but it is an open Cat race. If you can cover 25 miles in or before 4 or 5 hours you are welcome. There usually is a meal at the end of Sunday's race back at the park by Pineda Causeway and US-1. Watch these pages for a NOR shortly. This race is one of the Harken sponsored series this year.
If you have not yet done this race....it is one that should not be missed. This year will be my third, and I would not dream of missing it. I'm still not sure if it's two days of sailing with a party in between, or a huge party bookended by two great days of sailing. Either way a great time. Now that the race is back on the last weekend in Oct...Capt Hirams has a Halloween Costume party that night that cannot be missed!!!!!!!!
Actually the Harken Series is now just buoy regattas. Craig is running the distance series: http://sailseries.com/
