Here is the 190 sq ft reacher. All sails are Pentex and is has GREAT Portsmouth numbers.

Doug Snell,
Where did you get the main and reacher sails, didyou figure the portsmouth numbers or are they listed some where (under what boat name), and what have you sailed against??

I got mine from Sabre, but Bob Curry who cut them is not there now. I would contact Chip at www.whirlwindsails.com as his prices are really good and get a SuperR Pentex sail. Here a some of the changes I made.

Send me a email and I will give you Portsmouth number. You take a hit for both the sails but Bob Curry did real good with this setup. I am still getting use to the sails and have to get better with my starts. They are killing me.

Doug,
I am looking at the picture of your reacher and doing the math.
The hounds are about 18 ft up the mast, the reacher starts around 1 foot below. The Tack is about 1 foot above the deck level.
the foot seems to be about 0.45 times the luff length.
My guess from the picture is luff 17 ft, foot 7.6 ft leach 15 ft.

This works out to around 60 ft^2. If he sold you a 190 ft^2 reacher, I would go back and ask for the other 130 ft.

If you realy want 190 ft^2 headsail, you will need a 14 ft pole, and the head of the reacher will go quite a ways above the hounds.

Good Luck
Eric

Doug,
When are you going to get the A2 or the F16 you were talking about?

I think you're right... the main on the 17 is only about 170 sq ft, right? Looking at that picture I'd agree with 60 sq ft.

Bill:

As for A2. Have to wait till I get out of school. 2 up boat would be nice once we learn the spin on the Mystere and Ashleigh gets a little more size and strength.

Guys:

Maybe is is just 60 sq ft on reacher, BUT regardlss it FLYS!!! and is a LOT better than the stock jib. I am just going by what Bob Curry told me and I thought he would know since he cut it? Just have to be real careful not to sit on lazy sheets as the blocks are real far back.

By the yoke I mean spreader bar on reachers bridle. What does that achieve and it looks like it is teathered in some way back to the main beam.
Thanks for getting back to me.

Warbird:

The foil helps with stress on the bows. I got it here. The Super 17 kit in bottom of page. I don't know if it would fit your boat though. Maybe it could be modified. The blocks are mounted on the tramp tacks. 18" off rear crossbars.
