I am considering a job in Nashville TN starting next summer. Saw there are some sailing clubs there but was wondering about what type of cat sailing was around that area. Any info would be appreciated as this is a part of the decision about the job.

Thanks

Jody

It certainly was Dermot! It was by the Lovin' Spoonful in 1967. Now I'm really showing my age! <img src=

[color:

] ARTIST: Lovin' Spoonful
TITLE: Nashville Cats
Lyrics and Chords

{Refrain}
Nashville Cats, play clean as country water
Nashville Cats, play wild as mountain dew
Nashville Cats, been playin' since they's babies
Nashville Cats, get work before they're two

/ CG7 C - - / / / /

Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar pickers in Nashville
And they can pick more notes than the number of ants
On a Tennessee anthill
Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar cases in Nashville
And any one that unpacks his guitar could play
Twice as better than I will

/ C - / G7 - / / C - / / F - / G7 - / C - /

Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a
Musical proverbial knee-high
When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high
And the record man said every one is a yellow Sun
Record from Nashville
And up north there ain't nobody buys them
And I said, but I will

And it was
{Refrain}

Well, there's sixteen thousand eight hundred twenty one
Mothers from Nashville
All their friends play music, and they ain't uptight
If one of the kids will
Because it's custom made for any mother's son
To be a guitar picker in Nashville
And I sure am glad I got a chance to say a word about
The music and the mothers from Nashville

{Refrain}

Geez, one armpit to another. How lucky is that? I guess you ain't racing in the Combeaux, then...

I dunno about Nashville, but there is a group in Memphis, but they're pretty much a bunch of Hobie snobs. That is, except Damon, who of course is a great guy.

Thass it, go to thebeachcats.com and ask Damon - he lives in Memphis, he oughta know what's in his state, huh?

There is a Hobie Fleet in Nashville, as well. I think there are a lot of H17s and a few H20/Miracles, not sure about other manufacturers. I think they are on Percy Priest Lake. There is a pretty active J22 fleet on the lake, as well.

http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/ has some contact names.

You ought to look into hanggliding while you are there, the best school in the country is in Chattanooga. Little known fact; there was a move to call hanggliding

skysailing

in the late 70's...never caught on though....

Hi Jody,
This is Mike W previously from Shreveport and previously from Nashville. Sorry, but no cat sailing in Nashville. We used to travel to Memphis, Birmingham, and Atlanta to race. I had to switch to monohulls to get my racing in. Check out these clubs.
Harbor Island Yacht Club Lightnings, Lasers, and PHRF
Percy Priest Yacht Club J22s, S7.9s, Catalina 22s, and PHRF
Except for limited racing, we enjoyed living around Nashville.
Good Luck
