Taylor Reiss and Michael Rice demonstrated awesome mental toughness by coming back on Sunday with a fiery performance, despite having a C2 tiller cross bar on the Viper 16, to win First in the Formula 16 Class and first in Fleet. Captain Kirk eneded up second on his shiny new NACRA 20, and Charlie Trinque won the tie breaker with 'fast' Bert.

...despite having a C2 tiller cross bar on the Viper 16...

OK, how did they

overcome

this lack of preparation? Sawzall and duct tape???

Did you do the bullet shots for them?

Where are the crew names on the results (pet peeve)?

Mike

Pretty much. Hack it off at the correct length, put the uhmw plug back in.

Actually MIKE,

Taylor decided to come over at the last minute to sail with my son Michael and have some fun. Despite minimal effort, he still came out and crushed because he's so awesome. I recommend you show a little more respect and I look forward to seeing you show up on a race course at some point!

Hey, winning a regatta is always an accomplishment, and Taylor has a pretty good track record.

But, forgetting the crossbar isn't anyone else's fault, so forgive me for not being overly impressed by that part (and we've all done similar things, like leaving the drain plugs open). I was trying to inject humor. Sorry if you didn't pick up on that.

EDIT: No one has answered, and it's like you expect us to know. How much of a difference do the different crossbars make for these two boats? Did they have to fix something, or did they win with the wrong crossbar all the way through?

BTW, respect would include making sure the results list the crew names, and not misspelling Taylor's last name. Since this was a major regatta (Performance Midwinters), and this is the club lining up to host the Alter Cup, maybe you can get them to fix that?

The tiller crossbars are exactly the same in design, just one is a bit shorter than the other.

I'm assuming they cut what they had down, and are just going to be making another tiller crossbar for the C2.

I thought he brought the cross bar...but it was for the C2? Better get some colored tape, then tape up all the parts for the C2 a different color than the Viper!

Thanks for the clarification Karl.

Couldn't they just sail with one rudder up at all times, or does that not work on the Viper?

A brief gallery of Millie's photos is available on www.gulfsailing.com if you have the couch time to see some faces of 'seasoned' friends from the island.

Great food, great racing led by Kevin and his RComm, and fine hospitality provided by Pensacola Beach Yacht Club made the nice weather even better.

Nice pics, looks like great conditions!

Any progress with getting those results fixed?

Our yc's annual fundraising regatta, the Preemie Cup, will be held April 14, and I will endeavor to have the PHRF doublehanded team's, the 420 team's, and the catamaran team's crewmembers listed as practicable.
