What happened to G-Cat F16?
I see lots of posts about the boat, but nothing on why it is not being produced. I emailed Hans long ago but never got any response. Also emailed Vectorworks- no response. I know Hans is committed to Morning Star Fishermen and and think it is a fantastic idea. Has he stepped completely away from sailing cats?? I have seen a classified ad somewhere and he was selling hulls and other parts.
Do you know this as fact or just flappin' your mouth? The boat was good, points fine without boards, and only one or two were made. However, the Blade sailplan did not work on the platform and the boat was rushed to regattas before balanced. The boat is (was) for sale. If you want specifics, ask Hans. He'd be glad to tell you everything. Matt might add to the story since he built the hulls.
So, since you seem to know enough about it to make disparaging comments, what does the boat weigh and what would one cost new?

Easy with the flapping mouth comment David. You do not know me personally to go to that level. Treat me respectfully and I will do the same. That said, let me be more specific with what I said.
The boat never weighed 230 lbs, it was over weight, the exact figures I never got them, I never really cared.
The cost effective comment comes from speaking with the builder and the designer. I remember Hans told me he wanted to target the
family
or
beginner sailor
interested in getting into performance sailing. Sadly the BLADE rig (which is actually the Taipan's rig) was/is not a cheap rig so this made the G cat, not very cost effective.
As far as the dagger board comment, I personally heard that from various good sailors. They said the boat never pointed as good as boats with daggerboards. - Ill keep their names out of this for sake of their own privacy. Trust me though, I would take anything those sailors have to say as extremely knowledgeable.
The original poster already asked Hans, Hans has not replied. Hence the publically posted question.
The boat did not get spanked at Tradewinds 2006 because of the lose nut on the tiller. The boat had very good potential, sadly it was never followed up for various reasons, some of them being the ones I posted.
OK, you sail against that GCat sailed a really good sailor like Hans and see what happens. Until then, it's just talk. As to Tradewinds, didn't the rudders break? Dotan, weren't they?
And Robi, if a teeny bit of sailor smack hurts your thin skin, better get a pink flower so we know you when we see you. <img src=

No, but I do know that the boat is for sale and any unsubstantiated bashing is hurtful to getting it sold. I've seen and raced against this cool boat (and Hans) lots of times and Robi's claims seem pretty hollow to me. Hans put a huge amount of time and effort into that project just to have a small man like Robi bash it out of hand.
I think [color:

] Robi better grow a spine if his little feelings got hurt by the mean man. <img src=
