sad

I had a friend's cat pushed into the bay (it was on the beach, on wheels). we found it floating (wheels still under it) about 3 miles south.

Use tie-downs when you leave your cat on the beach and it's much harder for people to push it in

Too bad somebody passing by can't drop a GPS beacon on it or something. I doubt it's going to sink any time soon, The mast is obviously pretty well sealed and the air in the hull isn't going anywhere unless something flips it the the other way around.

900 dollar boat, no sails, 30 miles off shore!? Unless the current or winds bring her back in, she's headed for DJ's locker.

The owner I think has written it off and is looking for another. He may have sightings but no resources to retrieve her.

She'll float like that until someone hits her and crushes the hulls.
That is a shame. I hope no one gets hurt.
30 miles out is a lot of ocean, and that's barely six feet of hull out of the water.
Hard to see from sea level.
A powerboat with a flying bridge might be able to find it. At ten feet in the air, with a pair of binoculars, they should be able to scan a five mile radius in clear weather.

A fleet of five beachcats in formation and with radio contact could search a 10 mile swath. Might be a viable solution if the weather is good and they have a support stinkboat.

it just appeals to my sense of adventure...sure you can get another boat real cheap...but this would be fun, and the stroies we could tell...beers on the beach after the rescue would taste extra good!

This would make one helluva good story. I wish I was close enough to participate!

30 miles/6mph = 5 hour tow back in. @ seatow prices that is like..... $2500 + time it takes to locate it

think it would sink if someone put a few bullet holes in the bows?

I wasn't thinking Seatow. I was thinking of Bob's idea of a fleet of cats spreading out on the water looking for the thing. Bump the 6mph to something closer to 15 (figuring moderately good wind), spread out on the water so you can cover a lot of area at once, throw in a case of beer on the beach afterward, and you've got bragging rights afterward. A hand operated bilge pump would clear the hulls, and a cat can be towed with a Y bridle on the bows. The ride back will only be slightly slower than the ride out.

For the boat to sink you would have to put weight in the hulls
nd/or holes in the beams and mast.

It would be epic, even if no one found it, what better reason could you have to go out on a sailing adventure with a fleet of catamarans (or any other boat for that matter) I wonder if you could hoist a look out with binoculars to the top of the mast somehow...

Mount 4 GoPros to cover each direction all connected via WiFi to an iPad in a waterproof case and a Cell phone with a tethering plan. Have the crew cycle through all four sides until you spot it.

Put that rig on 10 beachcats and start your search.

Oooooh, you know what I'd suggest...

Same ring of GoPro cameras hanging from a kite line some 500' above the water. THEMS got some RANGE!

Range and speed. We don't use the full ability of the boats often. It would make for a fun adventure!
