[#1232]

I'm in Islamorada Florida for the start of the Tybee 500 and the Hobie Europe factory team has a brand new Hobie Wildcat entered.

Here's some detail pictures, let me know anything you want a picture of and I'll try to get it this week.

What's going on with those trap lines? How does the bitter end of the adjustment line return to the top of the mast?

this is hobies response to the Capricorns / C2 / Nacra F18 etc. The Nacra carbon is a 20' this is an 18'.

this replaces the out of date Tiger

BY THE WAY I think the traps are standard.. i think that pic above looks like it goes back up, but it doesn't (unless there is some real custom thing on that cat)

Good question Rob,
For distance racing, an adjustable trapeze is important, with an additional amount for adjustment when need. This presents one with a long bitter end tail. What this team does (as well as a few others) is attaches/splices the bitter end to a bungee which is attached part way up the trap wire. Why? . . . to keep the end from flopping around and to make it easy to reach, adjust, etc. for instant adjustment in an offshore environment.

Andrew: You can see in the last pic of the album (when at full size) that the adjustment lines go straight back up and out of the pic.

Philip: thanks

Excellent answer Philip, I noticed this when I took the pictures and checked out the other boats, they pretty much all had their traps rigged like this. So it's not a Wildcat thing as I first thought.
