I wanna sail the Persian Gulf.
There won't be any mines except right in and around the Strait. I mean, the gulf is 1000 km long and has 5000 km of coastline, so there have to be places that are "civilized" enough to put in and sail from.
So, what cat are you contemplating sailing out there? (for the sake of dreaming and conversation)
Lookin' like my Mystere 6.0 might make it to the water faster than my C2 F18, sadly. AHPC (Australian High Performance Catamarans)/Goodall Design are dragging their feet getting my ordered stuff sent.
I set up the Mystere yesterday. Dang. That 31' mast is tall!
Haven't gotten that far. The first thing would be to investigate whether anyone there does already.
Dubai would be the cool place to sail from. A mostly-free civilization/country with fun-loving people.
"Mostly-free" except for the indentured South Asians who have built it all and live in horrific conditions with no rights - carefully out of sight of the "proper" population and tourists. My reading is that Dubai is an absolutely awful place that the desert should reclaim ASAFP, as with every petrostate run by hereditary oil sheiks. The end of oil can't come fast enough to rid the world of those scum. Also, pretty damn close to the Strait.
So.... why would you want to go sailing over there anyway, when there are so many far more picturesque, sociable places in Europe and the American Continent? What's your draw to the Persian Gulf? Historical reasons?
