So I was reading about this in another thread and couldn't help but think about the Pati'n.
A catamaran without rudders or boards you steer by sail trim and body placement. It was developed in the 1940s in the Mediterranean and is still actively raced. It looks like an absolute blast.

I have seen them and met some of the sailors. They all said they loved the boats and the sport.

Be careful not to fall off. you can hold a trapeze if it helps you balance but you don't need to.
As you walk up and down the beam you control the direction of the boat.
If the weather is good for it, you can stand in certain positions with the sail cleated and rudders tied or pulled up
and sail for miles and miles. Standing on the port bow will cause the boat to go right and standing to the port stern will cause the boat to go left if you need to correct course. It is a little like windsurfing a cat.

I think boatbore is pointing attention to the fact the other poster was constantly stymied by incredibly simple facets on their boat therefore putting themselves forward as a relative expert is an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

I know what the Dunning-Kruger effect is. These days we seem to be awash in very public sterling examples.
But I think it's a stretch to apply it here; some people just aren't very good at reading a room.

I really just wanted to talk about the Patin. It is the first beachcat/one design sport catamaran in the world. It was developed in the 1940s and still actively raced with fleets of over 100 boats at their major regattas. There is something so pure about these boats, no rudders, boards, or battens in the sail, that make the contemporary beachcat look like sailing with training wheels.
I've been sailing for over 50 years and love all things sailing and just wanted to share a really unique boat I thought beachcat sailors would appreciate.

It doesn’t work to just copy paste the links, they don’t end up “live”.
You have to select the little oval shaped button, “URL”, just be.ok where you type your posts. That will insert a set of brackets. Then paste your link inside the brackets.
On an iPad, (not sure about phones), it will also add a space after the 1st bracket, just before http, I have to mannually delete that space, or the link won’t work.

Those are an interesting concept, lightweight, looks relatively easy to home build, & should be very economical to acquire.

this guy is using his legs to "swim" around a mark (4min mark) ? haha - wonder if that is allowed in this class racing?
Looks like he's using his legs as a sea anchor/ rudder to force a jibe. The guy on the boat to starboard is doing the same thing. Probably a light air technique.

sounds like using your arms or legs is permitted in this class of racing -

The topic title is confusing and led to the initial odd replies.
The Patin looks like a blast to sail, would definitely have a steep learning curve. Looks like it would be easy to fall off if there was any wind at all.
I'm changing the thread title to more reflect the discussion.
