I decided buying a larger monohull boat would be a better boat for my family at this time with a 4yo and one due in august so I have decided to sell my 08 getaway. I bought a 94 Hunter 23.5 in great shape along with a trailer and get this he gave me a.97 explorer with the boat that is in fait shape. He was leaving for Arkansas and couldnt take either. The boat has a water ballast so I can launch at most launches. Now here is the good part, my wife said I could buy a different cat if I wanted to once tje getaway is sold. Yay. Now what I need is a experienced sailor to show me how to rig and sail my new Hunter. Any takers? I can compensate if need be. I know I am going to catch hell from most on here but for kids a berth and toilet is nice. Now to start yhinking about which cat to buy. I dont want to spend too much, maybe a prindle.
The big sail goes behind the mast. The little one goes in front. Anything else?
Actually on monos the main might be the small sail.
Not to mention there could be 2 masts!
I really need to kow how to set it up and use the winches and such. The first outing should be interesting. Anyone wanna go? I think my getaway is sold so know I need to find a new cat. Hmmm so many options.

do you have a motor for it?...you will want one if you don't. it makes it way easy to deal with. monos are easier to sail than cats, especially tacking. motor out the channel(unless the wind lets you sail), point into the wind, raise the main, raise the jib, fall off, and off you go(same thing in reverse for coming in). don't drop the winch handle overboard! they are costly. break out the checkbook for all the coastguard required stuff-flares, non-human powered noise makers, throw flotation, etc... on a great day you will hit speeds in excess of 7 kts.. hard to come down off of cat sailing but you can make sandwiches and fruitti drinks and stuff. the cockpits are a little cramped compared to sprawling out on the tramp, even on bigger monos. your experience on the cat will make sailing the hunter easy. how much water does it draw? shoal draft keel with centerboard or just centerboard? when i was a kid my dad bought a brand new san juan 21 with the centerboard and pop up rudder, it could sail in 1' of water, hit the beach, unload, then anchor just off shore...great boat, won lots of races(big spinnaker). sold it and got a 26' chrystler-huge mistake...chrystler...

It has a 8hp nissan 4stroke on it. I guess it isnt the sailing I am worried about but more of the setup. I may take you up on the offer and while I am there you can show me how the pro's sail a cat. I am keeping my eye out for a prindle.
