So with some good advise in the technical forum, and generally learning some new dance steps, we've been having fun with a fancypants new Whisper Cat. We are still learning, still tuning, but each run is good fun now.

Three short edits to tease:

If you click around my name / channel, you'll find playlists with the raw footage... booooring, as we spend much time futzing about until we find the sweet spot... we are getting better at it, but it'll take a few more runs out in the water.

Looks like you're getting plenty of practice uprighting the boat. Looks like great fun.

Really cool, does the software for the GoPro automatically add the speed and course graphics?

Latest gopro cameras have GPS, so they capture a telemetry track in sync with the video. If you use their software you can put these overlays. No nautical units yet.

And yes most of our best, most fun flights end up in a capsize. So I make sure to include one in the video. This winter is very mild so making the most of it...

We are going through lots of trapeze bungee cords, as they snap when you fly too far from the boat in a capsize. I bought a roll... 🙂

Martin,

Two potential solutions to your trapeze bungee chord snapping problem. The first is shown here:

http://www.microwindracing.com/boat.html

The second is to use sister clips, the holt/allen plastic ones seem to snap before the bungee. Upside of this is the knot is still in place keeping the bungee where it should be, and you can then tie this onto your trapeze setup to continue sailing (until the bungee snaps of course).

Have fun!!

http://www.microwindracing.com/boat.html <-- that's a great page! Yeah, that's got some ideas on how to add to the max stretch of the bungee without losing tension. Thanks for the link!

Update: we are getting the hang of it 🙂

Earlier this year we struggled a bit because I had rigged some details of the foils wrong. It was there in the manuals from day one, but I had to do it wrong first, I guess.

Here's a recent video with my 7yo son as crew -

(the orig footage shows stretches of 10 minutes of uninterrupted foiling). Here's a few more -

We also have some friends in Minnesota - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCipkSggLhwNpIpeSGgIMBDA and in Austria - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwhb6u4A_Hy-c-eJbMLW7bg

Addictive!

Never saw anyone do a 360 around the tiller before. Physics is a trip!

Great boat. And best of all, it's RED! 👿
