Hello everyone!

I am a senior citizen living on Conesus Lake in New York State. I recently purchased an inflatable Minicat 420 catamaran but I have no sailing experience yet. I need some sailing lessons. I am looking for someone who lives in the area and who would be willing to come to my location and teach me on my boat. I certainly would be willing to pay for the lessons. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Dave

There are some Hobie Fleet contacts not too far from you and a cat club out of Evangola State Park...they may know of someone closer to you who can help:

Hobie Fleets – Hobie Class Association of North America

Western New York Catamaran Association, Inc.

In the meantime, I'd recommend that you start learning about the basics on your own.  You're going to have to deal with a lot of new lingo if nothing else.  I taught myself to sail using this little old-school paperback about 40 years ago and am still quite partial to it:  Invitation to Sailing: Brown, Alan: 9780671211349: Amazon.com: Books

The book has nothing to do with catamarans, but, regarding the basics, sailing is sailing.

Good luck on this quest.  It's really cool that you are wanting to take up the sport in your later years.  Be aware, however, that, if the bug really bites you, your life and bank account balance will never be the same.
