[#13989]

I am looking at buying a 1988 Nacra 5.7. I went out and looked at the boat and found these issues:

1. The very botton of both hulls is worn down to the fiberglass (fiberglass showing). Some places it's well worn dorn other places it's not so worn down however brown is showing the length of both hulls. According to the owner the hull does not leak any noticable amount of water.

2. The top of the decks at the cross bars is not soft. However there are two hairline cracks running lengthwise of the starboard hull. The run about 2 inches on each side of the front cross brace.

3. The metal plate that the starboard shrouds connected to is rusted and looks like it needs replacement.

Those are the main issues I uncovered. I can purchase this boat for $500 (friend) including trailer so even if I spend $1000 to fix it up I still come out ahead. Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I'll throw my 2 cents in for you.

1. No problem with the bottom of the hulls. West Systems has a kit to fix worn hull bottoms.

2. Need to determine if cracks are just in gelcoat or through into fiberglass. Not an expensive fix either way. Grind out and repair.

3. Replace the shroud anchor.

Worst case sounds like about a $150.00 max fix not including labor.

Regards,
Mike

I agree with mike, you might enven be able to crank out all the repairs in an afternoon. Sounds like you found a great deal on a good boat.
