Hello All

An early heads up for the Rock Hall Annual Regatta weekend in Rock Hall MD on the Eastern Shore on Father's day weekend

The River Race is a run what you brung race from Chestertown to the Yacht club for ..oh 10 -12 miles or so. What people bring is pretty neat... Last year... 3 Chesapeake Log Canoes, to Lasers... 65 boats... One start... clear your air and go!

Saturday and Sunday are the buoys regattas. They have a couple of courses. Three Catamaran starts are planned this year.

The A cats are expecting sailors from Va Beach (Tracy) and Bristol (Candyman) to challenge local ace Tony and should get a good sized fleet. This is number 3 for the Atlantic Coast High Point

The Hobie 14's are doing their ONLY regatta of the season at Rock Hall... The 16 sailors drag out the ol 14 and battle man to man!

The Open class is filled with boats that don't quite make a fleet... This year four or so F16's are planning on flashing their chutes and seeing if they can save their time on the Hobie 16, 17 and 18's and 20's....

(he he.. Rock Hall has upwind finishes... no more getting passed at the end of the race by those kite guys!)

Spread the word.... they are trying to get a dinghy portsmouth fleet a start.... so who knows what will shake out of the garage for this race.

The Windmills are dialing up for their NA's at Rock Hall a bit later in the season. Lots of other dinghy's as well.

Online registration is available here for both the River Race and the Annual Regatta.

Camping, Racing, Food, .... AND THE POOL make this a can't miss regatta!

Yep! Sailed the mini eye twenty this weekend Dave but I am making progress on getting the Flyer back together. I'm ready to clear coat everything carbon and then re-assemble. I'm going to be wandering aimlessly around the Carolinas in early July but no time to sail. I hope to get down there and stink up your beach at the earliest opportunity though. Ed

Clear coating carbon? May I ask with what? I sanded the old faded Marstrom yellow off my beams last year and then put West over it...well now I have a dirty yellowed west color, so Im sanding it back off again. I need the secret of the carbon clear coat!
Stink up my beach anytime! My boat will be set up, come sail it anytime, since you are the reason im hooked on the A Cat!

I haven't bought it yet but I'm under the impression that Awlgrip is the way to go. There is a very good thread on it here on Catsailor somewhere that I need to dig up and they've been using it on the masts here with good success.

I doubt I'm the reason you got hooked on the A Cat but thanks for the compliment. I'll take those anytime I can. The boat speaks for itself and I'm sure Rick let you use his here and there.

An epoxy coat like West will go yellow pretty fast. I've had good success with two pack urethane clear - nasty stuff to spray though. Single pack clear varnish works for a year or two but eventually peels and is horrible to get off and redo. How do I know?...........Just spent two days doing a mast!!!

Try rolling on WEST with 207 hardener. Clear coats carbon nicely and has UV filters. Cheaper and easier than Awlgrip.

The idiots at West Marine told me to use some urethane that I think was for wood, and now its peeling on top of the yellow West sytem, so it is really a mess. Looking forward to sanding again! JK
Thanks for the tips

Dave, I do my boards and rudders with 2 part clear coat from auto parts store (Anderson Auto Parts)wet sand with 1000 and buff and it looks like new. I think West will always yellow with time, or it has with me on Laser rudders and boards. Rick

Does anyone know how to strip white paint that is peeling from a carbon mast. It is a 1st or 2nd generation Hall spar. Thanks.
