My sail came with the boat, not sure it was made for my mast, but if the outhaul is on tight, it pulls out of the track at the bottom, despite a line tied thru the downhaul grommet.
Its a Marsrom, so the outhaul is the mainsheet, I rigged a limiter, but if I limit it to where the sail doesnt pull out, it loses proper shape(too full).
Im in the process of building a boom strap for the mainsheet instead of the mainsheet outhaul configuration, but is this a sail problem?

I had that problem with my Landy sail. A line through the grommet and remembering to cleat the in haul seems to prevent it. I think the cleating of the in hull is the important part -- it needs to resist sheet load and the little scrap of line I use for the grommet really isn't doing much except buying me a bit of time if/when I forget.

Other than that, I also thought about stitching some more cloth around the bolt rope at the bottom to make it a bit more snug.

Landenberger sail also. I have resisted putting more cloth on the sail luff because Im afraid it will damage my mast if it still pulls out. In the 2009 martsrom pix thread it shows a boom strap, that is hopefully the solution.

Dave,

If you pull your outhaul tight before applying downhaul, most likely you will pull the sail out of the mast track as you apply downhaul. For conditions where you sail with max downhaul and outhaul, set your outhaul (with the downhaul off) with about 2

-4

of foot camber and then pull on max downhaul. You should see the foot tighten as you pull on downhaul because the downhaul also pulls on the bias of the sail.

I pretty much set my upwind foot camber at 4" for all conditions and then let it adjust with the downhaul tension.
