I'm considering either an F16 or F18. I watch catsailor and beachcats classified ads regularly, are there other sites to monitor? Thanks!

Dave

You may well want to stay in contact with several F16 sailors. Often the boats are sold to friends before it gets known to the wider public through classifieds.

I seem to remember that THE chuck was thinking about selling his boat. Does anybody know the status on that ?

There is an F16 for sale here. An Alter Cup boat I believe.

Where are you located.

Thanks for the response, guys. I'm in WA, but have been known to go to fairly great lengths to acquire what is currently perceived to be the

perfect

boat for me. I like the idea of connecting w/ F16 sailors to hear of boats about to come on the market. Please email or phone me if you know of something available. Thanks!

Dave,

There is no such thing as a perfect boat.

Hunting for one is an endless chase that will never be completed satisfactory.

The real question is whether a given type of boat suits your desires and local circumstances the best. Then this design will be

perfectly

suited to you. Achieving that is already a major succes.

I see you already own an A-cat, so what are you looking for in getting a F16 ?

You missed the nuance Wout. It's a joke.

Yeah, this gets to the heart of the matter, what am I looking for? The A cat is certainly my light air boat, and wonderful it is (though I think about a spin at times)! Flight Risk is the big boat on big water, where it blows midsummer when hi pressure(and no wind) sets in on this part of the country. The Supercat has been the high wind boat closer to home, for the spring and fall days when it blows 15 to 25. And it serves that purpose marvelously, a joy to drive hard in the chop that 20+ kicks up. But it's a big boat, and a real effort to get rigged, and in and out of the water. I'm fighting tendonitis in both my forearms, so I'm really scanning for a lighter boat that can still handle 20 kts of wind, a boat that's fun to run double trapped. And if it's a boat that can be run solo, that's a big plus, as I can break away from work when it blows, and it's often hard to find crew on short notice.
But I'm not sure that the F16 is really the right boat to fit this slot, and I'm somewhat apprehensive of letting go of the SC, it does the hi wind thing so well. I'm also considering an F18, and would love input from all of you an how both these boats handle 20 kts. The Tiger I've been sailing lately seems to power up in pretty light winds, and the little bit I've sailed it in bigger(though incredibly gusty and shifty)winds, it seemed pretty twitchy compared to the SC.
More thoughts? Thanks!

What do you expect me to say ?

There is no way that I would prefer the Tiger F18 or the SC20 in 20 knots of wind when sailing solo.

And I certainly wouldn't double trapeze on an A-cat. Not enough volume and you'll risk breaking some stuff in the conditions that would allow you to double trap it.

So either you keep the A for all solo sailing and keep the SC20 or get the Tiger F18 for doublehanded sailing OR you get a F16 to do both and maintain some money on the bank and some empty space on your lawn.

I know what I'll do. (or actually have done 6 years ago)

Still, if you feel the Tiger F18 feels twitchy then I'm not sure the F16 is up your ally. When I get on a Tiger it feels like truck to me. However, it does amaze me that you feel that the Tiger is twitchy when you are used to sailing your own A-cat ?
