As most of us know, ISAF has approved a modified SCHRS handicap system for beach catamarans.

The new ratings (and new rules) can be found here :

www.schrs.com

www.schrs.com/index.php?page=ratings

A summary gives (ordered to speed):

doublehanders :
F20 = 0.949 (OD I-20 (US) = unknown)
F18 = 1.005 (= 100.5%)
[color:

red

]F16 2-up = 1.020 (54 sec slower per hour racing relative to F18)
Spitfire = 1.035
FX-one 2-up = 1.040
Hobie 16 = 1.152

Singlehanders :
A-cat = 0.980
[color:

red

]F16 1-up = 0.994 (51 sec slower per hour racing relative to modern A-cat)
FX-one 1-up = 1.042
Shadow = 1.069
Inter 17 (F17) = 1.073 (17 sq.mtr. spi and 1.067 (19 sq. mtr. spi)
Hobie 17 = 1.136

Clearly (in this listing) the F16's are the first choice in the way of speed after the F20 and F18 when doublehanded and A-cats when singlehanded. Also the SCHRS rating now closely resembles the Texel 2006 ratings. So it doesn't make much difference which system is used now.

Personally I still think the speed difference of 92 secs per hour racing between A-cat and F18 with the A-cat being faster is a bit of a stretch.

Anyway, (changing the subject quickly) looks as if a Cat rigged F16 has practically gained 2 minutes on the F18's!!!. <img src=

Can we get some definitions straight here !
With the list as it is, it is dificult to see what configuration we are talking about.
Lets take one class for example: Dart 16.
You can say:
Dart 16 (or Sloop) and you are talking about a Dart 16 with 2 sails and 2 crew.
Dart 16, Cat boat, That is a Dart 16 with 1 sail and 1 crew (the definition of a cat boat is a boat with 1 sail.)
Dart 16 SPi, Dart 16 2 crew, main, jib & spi.
When people started sailing the Dart 15 singlehanded with 2 sails, it was called a Dart 15 Sprint.
There are references to F16 Cat boat and FX-one cat boat - this should be the 1 crew, 1 sail version, but it seems to be referring to the boat, singlehanded with a spinnaker <img src=

/>.
Am I completely wrong here ?

P.S. A Dart 16 Cat Boat has

no rating

- This is just a Dart 16 with 1 crew and 1 sail - there must be a number for that !

Scooby you've been working really hard recently chill out and take some 'Green Nike' therapy, they are the only figures you should be interested in at this moment.

I've an investment portfolio to restructure, a ski holiday to prepare for, a V16 engine to build and a Dolphin striker to fix......
