A-Class NA's Social Schedule

This post is for those A-class sailors and A-class fans that might have missed it on the A-class forum.
I thought I would give you all some more detail on the plans for the social activities during the 2003 North American Championships to be held November 11-14 at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville, LA. We hope this will be the most well attended North Americans in the US history of the class. So far we have a head count indicating the possibility of over 30 boats.
On Tuesday night after we complete boat measurement (hopefully), we will relax with a keg of beer and a presentation from Pete Melvin and Ben Hall on the development of the new A2 A-class catamaran. We’ll be providing soft drinks and a keg of beer as well as local grown pizza (not Dominos or Pizza Hut!).
On Wednesday night, we will be treated to a buffet featuring Crawfish Julie (a tasty and spicy crawfish dish) accompanied by salad and French bread. Once again there will be soft drinks, a keg of beer, and the club bar will also be open for other refreshments.
On Thursday night, we will walk or drive about ¼ mile from the yacht club to the 124 Restaurant on the lakefront. The chef will be preparing the following menu for us:
Soup – Smoked Corn, Andouille, and Potato Chowder
Salad – Belgian endive with candied walnuts and pancetta bacon topped with a sun-dried mission fig vinaigrette and smoked onion marmalade
Entree – Choice of brown sugar crusted double cut pork chop set on spiced Ancho whipped potatoes with an apple-gingered chutney and roasted root vegetables or pan seared Gulf fish set on herbed polenta topped with a honey roasted shrimp and bok choy stir fry with a sweet red pepper coulis
Dessert – Pecan, almond, and chocolate tart set on sweet whipped cream with dark and milk chocolate drizzles
On Friday night, we will be provided with a grill your own steak, chicken, or tuna filet on the club grills accompanied by baked potatoes, salad, and rolls. The dinner will be followed by the North American Championship Awards Banquet.
So if you’ve been on the fence about coming to this regatta, hopefully I’ve got your taste buds activated so you’ll start packing your boat tonight!
