Mr. Schneider had previously used the term a "bump in the road". If you're going to be sued, it's inevitable.

With interest in getting started on the right foot, is it worth the "trouble" to attempt at protecting a club/fleet by preparing a legal document and asking a current/prospective member to sign it?

If so, what are the key ingredients of such a document?

Our little sailing club has a release form that all members sign. We also require that all sailors that day are part of the "Race Committee". If they elect to sue the race committee or club they are bring a law-suite against themselves.

Never had a problem but then again we usually know most everyone sailing.
