I am replacing my broken spin pole with a new Sunfish upper boom (which is made by Selden masts) which is approx 13 feet 9 inches. It is just about 2 feet longer than the normal length of the original pole. I am considering leaving the extra length to attach a GoPro camera at the end. I would put all fittings at the normal positions (which I am researching now)
Does anyone have any concerns or opinions. At this point, I am 69 years old and just do recreational sailing, and do not race.
I do follow this site and respect the opinions and knowledge that it offers.

My old Nacra 6.0na, (actually sailing again- a few owners later) had this very pole as my spin pole- till it broke at some points where holes had been drilled for fittings when it was swept under the boat by a big wave- chute wasn't up!

I'd say go for it.

Edit:- It's actually the one pictured in my avatar! Both boat and pole!

The pole I'm talking about was an alloy, no carbon.

Guys,
No Problem To do so. Dont forget to mount some reinforcement or spacers inside the pole where you revet the stand up block with.
