Anybody know the intricacies of putting, lets say, Yale Cover over 5/16 D2 Racing or 5/16 NE Endura Braid?

Would I use 5/16 Yale Cover? Will it stretch enough to cover a 5/16” line or do I need to upsize to 3/8”?

Is it as simple as putting the D2 thru the Yale Cover and then treating the D2 as stripped core at both ends? At the traveler end of the line would a back splice work?

If you are using D2 racing, you won't be able to splice the yale cover into the cover of the D2 (unless it is already stripped there and you are splicing it into the core). What exactly are you trying to do?

I want to do a

Cover Bulk

over the part of the mainsheet that is handeld while sailing upwind.

See linky:

Personally, I'd switch over from DR2 to 5/16

or 3/8

Robline racing sheet and splice 3/16

spectra into where it runs through the blocks. I did this on my 20 and it is wonderful!

As far as bulking up the cover goes, I would buy some 3/8

Samson Trophy Braid (cheap, yet very grippy), and pull the core out.
If I remember correctly, we used to just whip the ends down semi-tapered, and the ran a sewing machine on the new cover part.
I think it will probably be more trouble than it is worth. Definitely consider switching to Racing Sheet.
