Where can i find the specs for an f18 sail?

I put a Capricorn sail on my mystere 5.5 and it has worked out very well for me... but the sail is almost shot (esp since i went through it last sat). I looked into a almost new one from Jill/Robbie but i am thinking i can get one built new for less than a lightly used one (esp since mine doesn't have to be race compliant).

I spoke with my contacts at Doyle and he will get me some pricing but i need to send him specs.

Thanks

There's an approved sail material list and there are the measurement criteria in the class rules - found here.

I suspect those are the only specs you're going to get for free.

Being F18 compliant doesn't make it more expensive.

Gotcha, i guess i just figured if it didn't need it to be exactly compliant it would require less time ... but i know very little about sailmaking.

Everything is in the plotter and driven by computer these days. The R&D that goes into making one sail a bit better than another, that's where the money is spent. I kinda suspect everyone pays for a piece of that. Especailly if you say I wan't all the goodies of an F18 sail for my Mystere 5.5. But hey I could be completely wrong on that point, it happens from time to time.

My friend who worked at jsi (doyle's roommate) had a custom sail made for his 6.0. They fed the dimensions into the software and pulled the corners around (in the software's sail render) till they got the desired look and dimensions.

Compare that to making sure every angle and size (and batten pocket) is withing a rule... in my (very under-educated in sail making) mind is why i thought it may be cheaper.. (less production time, and these guys didnt do any r&d). But i could be wrong and sticker shocked..

I will let you know in the end

Yeah...batten pockets. 🙂 That's for those that really live and breathe the rules.
