John,

Gotta disagree. I'm getting 3second+ responses at times. V slow.

Chad, thanks for listening in and helping. It's rare to have a Sysop actually make an appearance online.

It's been slow EVERY morning Eastern US time for a week or two. This morning there are about 20 total users. This morning it is slow to "connect", not a slow "paint". No response for 10-15 seconds, then...flash! The whole screen pops up.

I did find some processes which did not terminate correctly and were running in the background. I rebooted the server this morning to see if that would clear things up. Let me know if anyone still sees this problem. If so, post the requested data here.

It is 12:30 pm Central Standard time here. Seems to be working fine now. Guess reboot was the answer.

Thanks,

Doug

Appears to be much better now. Still slow at times but actually useable as a single activity.

The Forum is running slower than normal.
It's about 11:20am EST.
11 users on line + any "invisable" users

The Catamaran Sailor home page and linked pages are loading normaly. Only the forums are slow.

Chad,
There are 5 registered users and 9 anonymous at this time. I sometimes have not been able to get this thread to open at all and I have to give up and go back to the home page and start over. After third attempt, the thread finally opened, but very slowly.

After my 11:00 a.m. post, just preceding this one, it would not return me to the forum afterwards.

Chad,

Can you get rid of the pop up or rotating adds ? I always block them or scroll up on the screen so I can't see them (the moving adds are very irritating)

We don't have any pop-up ads on this web site -- just permanently positioned banner ad spaces at the top which help pay for this web site's existence.

Mary

On my page the banner on top flashes different adds and the add to the right flashes different adds. I realize that they help pay for the site but can't you keep them from flashing. You could change to a different add when you go to a different page. The way it is now I have been blocking them or scrolling down on the page so I don't see them. If I don't see them what good is the add. My point was are the flashing adds slowing down the site.

David,
The ads have always been like that and it was never a problem in the past, so I don't think that is it.

Chad,
Now I cannot even get the reply screen to open up half the time, and in all cases when I make a reply, it won't take me back to the forum after the reply is entered.

All right, make me a liar. After my preceding post at 12:01 p.m. I was returned to the forum. But I had to wait at least 3 or 4 minutes for the reply box to open up again to make this post.

What is the load on the server? If it's around 1 or below, time to identify which subsystem is struggeling. SQL server, or HTTP server? If everything looks fine, even your uplink, check if any systems suddenly have begun waiting for DNS or IDENT checks (run dig/nslook manually).

Sunday Morning 8:22 am, 5 of us regestered, 10 not registered. All other sites in a flash but got to CS Forum just too long. Try Who's Online after 30 sec gave up. Went out came back in <1 sec to Home.

Never changed my settings last time they fixed the Home page so the complete page shows across. Just cuts off the advertisements mostly.
Great site Mary just trying to help.

Terry

David,

I think you've been infested by trojan ad programs. I only have on ad at the top right (that's built into the page) that is the typical Catsailor fare. No popups. Try running ad-aware software...it's free.

Jake:

I run SpyBot Search & Distroy ever night before I signoff and find 75-100 problems to remove. I also run Adware. Both are free for private use.
