[#10066]

SO yeah, sailed my new h17 for the second time today. Had a blast, the wind was perfect not to strong, not to light, just enough for me to fly a hull sitting on the wing. Anyways, I was tacking to go to the starting line when I heard a horrible noise from my starboard hull.

When I get to the otheside, I see the cause...my centerboard is floating next to my boat. I was horrrified, and at the same time, thouroughly depressed. I've put so much work into this boat and trailer the past month, and I got to enjoy it for a total of 20 minutes.

Oh well, after I punched my car door (I think I have a broken hand now) and cried a bit (because I'm a grown up weenie), I made a few calls, and got someone to epoxy/glass my centerboard back to its original greatness. However, in the process of losing this board, the NINTY DOLLAR spring fell out and is now at the bottom of Lake Jordan (which isn't to deep right now to begin with, I could probably go dive for it)

I was wondering if some of the wonderful H17 sailors that have helped me in the past can help me again. Such that it is, I cannot afford a 90 dollar spring from Murrays. I'm willing to pay for a used one, just not $90 clams [Linked Image]

I love you all [Linked Image]

Maugan, check with your Hobie dealer, my last price list shows the spring part number 50350140 price as $47.75. Having also lost a spring once, we now all tie them in. Use a small line or sail thread to tie the spring to the pivot pin. Also, check to make sure you have the proper adjustment on the center board line. It should be no more than 12 1/2 in from the top of the board to the stop, with the board up. Also make sure the board aft edge is still inside the pocket, with the board fully down. We used to run them lower, and they tend to pop out if you hit a log, or other object.

The line length was correct, I had checked them while it was on the trailer. They functioned perfectly the first time I took her out, I think I know what happened, and I'm feeling more and more stupid about it. When I was launching, the beach is north carolina red clay... VERY NASTY. It also has TONS of tree stumps... so I decided to play it safe and walk the boat out till I was waist deep. However, once I shoved off, the jib backwinded and pushed me backwards, and I think that the centerboard either A) hit a stump or B) got jammed in backwards in the mud.

*sigh* Oh well, its fixable, I just want my beautiful day of sailing back [Linked Image]

Anyone have an extra H17 Centerboard they want to let go for a fair price? I need one to get mine going, scratches and dings OK as long as the hook is in good shape.

E-mail me at Dinonno@earthlink.net if you do.

Thanks

I have a question about class legality.

I don't want this happening again, and in that effort, I want to strengthen this hook with some stainless steel plates that sandwich the fiberglass. Now I realize that something like this would not be class legal, but do you think people would actually care?

If they care about grommets in tramps, then I am, in most cases, screwed.
