Hiram's Haul Postponed
Sorry to announce the 15th Annual Hiram's Haul will be postponed due to the latest Hurricane update, showing a small westerly jog to its course late Friday and into early Saturday. This jog is too unpredictable to try a start.
Those who want to cancel their reservations can do so by Thursday at 6pm to avoid a cancellation fee. So please help get the word out to anyone you know who made reservations at Hiram's. However, many of the reservations are those who were not racing so we will be there at the Halloween Party. Come join us for the fun without the work.
We will try to reschedule the 15th Hiram's Haul for another date. Please check the following sites for updates:

good news. I'd hate to miss this great event because they won't let me into town (if there's a voluntary evacuation order).
I could imagine trying to hold down a spin in 40+ knots shooting the bridges down the intracoastal <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />
I know JC, Jake, Todd and Kenny do that in their sleep, but the rest of us ....
Hi MN3, thanks! It is also on the homepage. I submitted the article last night but Damien had to approve it.
waterbug, you and a few others had pulled out before it was officially postponed.
You hate to cancel early because as soon as you do the thing can turn and you are in the clear.
I know, because:
1) I'm old
2) I know the conditions where
fun racing
becomes
not-so-fun racing
for me
3) My racing aspirations are more geared toward
fun
than
win
4) I'm an insurance twerp and I sail with an insurance adjuster. Unnecessary risk is something we typically like to avoid
5) They were indicating a likelihood of a voluntary evacuation of the beach as early as Tuesday morning of this week.
6) Weather forecasts are getting fairly accurate these days
Given that I bailed so early, I figure Saturday/Sunday will be perfect sailing conditions.
In either case, I am grateful that you've decided to reschedule rather than try to run it or cancel it outright. It's a great little
race
and I would have hated having to miss it. At least now I have a a second chance at participating
I know you, Scott, Dior, Warren and others put a good deal of work in this to make it happen and I'm glad you made the tough decision to postpone. Hopefully this will prompt a
HUGE-AH
turnout for the re-do.
Craig,
Forrest here. Jay and I were ready to be there and race, and of course the storm had other thoughts. However, let me give you an update on the housing matter. I made reservations for two nights at Davis Inn, and when it appeared that the storm was coming this way and the winds were going to be a little sporty for us ole guys, we decided to pull the plug on the weekend. Even though I called Davis Inn on Wednesday morning to cancel in plenty of time, they are still going to pop me for a one nigh's rent. So a heads up to all that might consider Davis in the future....unless you cancel 10 DAYS in advance, they will stick it to you. So I'd look else where for lodging.
Forrest I-20 & Stank
Hi Forrest, thanks for the heads up. Even though they were able to reimburse you, I think that was for the wrong reason. I will tell Scott and try to keep that in mind when adding the hotel list. If I forget and include them, please remind me. Regardless, glad you were able to get your money back!
