hobie 14 jib
you can omit the furling drum and swivel but theres more needed, the tramp will need grommets, theres a cable under the tramp to which jib sheet cleats attach. h14ts also have a dolphin striker to handle increased loads associated with a jib and trapeze which is not included on a jibless 14. i think it would be as inexpensive to buy a used 14t as to convert a jibless 14. and a lot less trouble. sailingproshop.com has been my most reliable parts supplier if you choose to convert. good luck, the 14 t is a sweet boat.
I think dannby9 hit it on the head when he inferred that buying a Turbo could be a better move. Supposing you get all the gear except the furler. If you omit the furler and shackle the jib to the bridle and you have jib cleats in the same position on the tramp your jib leach may be very lose. There is adjustment on the jibs clew but it may not be enough. The sollution would be to install a small strop in place of the furler to get the jib back up a bit so the leach can be tensioned.
Having said all that it may work without but if it doesn't the small strop would be my sollution. You could also rake the mast forward but sailing the H14Turbo and keeping it pointy end up is a delictae enough balance as it is.
Hope this helps.
